Brand identity for 160 Years Belgium & Japan
Embassy of Belgium in Tokyo
History repeats.
In 2016, we designed, developed and managed the commemorative program celebrating 150 years of friendship between Belgium and Japan, marking the establishment of diplomatic relations through the signing of the Treaty of Amity, Commerce and Navigation on 1 August 1866.
Ten years later, in 2026, we were once again invited by the Belgian Ambassador to Japan to help shape the anniversary year — albeit in a different way.
This time, our role focused on developing an extended brand identity around the official logo selected through a public competition — creating a coherent visual language for the embassy and its stakeholders across events, print and digital platforms.
As the official logo was subtly inspired by Japanese calligraphy, we amplified the brushstroke concept and created a visually striking "160", expanded the colour palette and developed a full set of graphic elements.
Based on this identity, we designed the commemorative book, posters, displays, banners, digital assets and, of course, the official website.
